SceneMakers was contracted to design a corporate hospitality suite for Delta Air Lines, to host VIP guests during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. SceneMakers’ creative abilities transformed a fairly ordinary ballroom into a sleek, contemporary setting for the client. The 6000 sq. ft. space was required to accommodate functions for check–in, dining, lounge seating, entertainment, food and beverage and Delta Technology displays.
SceneMakers presented and produced a suite which incorporated eight enormous brushed aluminum columns supporting a 100 ft. long white steel pergola, with colored banners overhead. Lounge seating and dining seating was arranged beneath the lighted pergola. Surrounding the space were overscale translucent panels which were backlighted, creating the ‘Delta Impressions Gallery’; which featured blurred images of winter Olympic athletes in various forms of motion. These impressionistic images supported the Delta Winter Olympic campaign, which ran over a two year period. The gallery panels were flanked with banks of snow, pine and live aspen trees. Nestled among the impressions gallery, were technology display kiosks, which allowed Delta’s VIP clients the opportunity to have hands on experience with upcoming technology, affecting the airline industry.
The suite was hailed as one of the “best” suites in the city during the Olympic Games. It represented the airline, with a modern, progressive, clean design, which had an aeronautical feel. It also dovetailed the wintry essence of the Salt Lake City region, with technology. The project was considered a major success for the client, and for Scenemakers. The project was produced on time and in budget.
