Aspen Productions (Atlanta) employed SceneMakers, in October 2000, to be the local liaison in Salt Lake City. SceneMakers’ task was to produce the physical site layout and setup for a mammoth event to be held in the Delta Air Lines hangar at Salt Lake International Airport. The hangar has two acres of covered floor space, which needed to be transformed into areas accommodating a stage production, various interactive games and entertainment, tradeshow booths, and food and beverage service for 8,500 guests.
The crown jewel of the event was the unveiling of Delta’s Olympic airplane that was designed for the Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. The entire event was planned around a dramatic opening of the hangar doors to unveil the new jetliner after which guests took brief flights over the city in the plane.
Entertainment consisted of climbing walls, virtual skier and snowboarder machines, carnival games, inflatable games, music, pin trading, and more.
SceneMakers’ planning included site planning, liaison with the stage production to be performed, furniture and equipment rental, games, entertainment, Olympic themed site décor, tradeshow booth setup, food and beverage services, site management, setup, takedown and site cleanup. The hangar was a working hangar and needed to be returned to active service within 12 hours of the event. SceneMakers was able to return the hangar to Delta, for aircraft service, a mere eight hours after the end of the event.
This was SceneMakers’ fourth hangar event with Delta and Aspen Productions. According to Delta’s officers, the event was a total success. Due to this success, the same event format was repeated in Atlanta. SceneMakers was proud to be part of this highly spirited event, which helped to promote the Olympic spirit in the community and amount Delta’s family of employees.
