Franklin Covey hired SceneMakers in 2001, for the fourth year in a row, to produce a 14,000 sq. ft. tradeshow area to showcase 26 of the company’s departments at a user group symposium, and the general session stage for symposium in an adjoining 20,000 sq. ft. space.
This particular year, the client wanted an Olympic related theme to introduce the upcoming Winter Olympics to their clients. Many of Franklin Covey’s clients come to the annual Symposium from cities all over the U. S. , as well as international guests.
The 14,000 sq. ft. exhibit hall at the Salt Palace, was transformed into 26 original tradeshow booths, 10’ x 10’ and 20’ x 10’ each, plus a 5,000 sq. ft. retail store area, a center stage and entertainment area for speakers and guest acts, a book signing area, and buffets and dining areas. SceneMakers produced site planning, graphics, signage, site décor, furniture and equipment rentals, lighting, sound, and stage management.
SceneMakers worked with the client’s marketing department to achieve a winter Olympic look, working within the colors of Franklin Covey’s corporate campaign for Symposium 2001. Islands of snow, pine and aspen trees, international flags, and graphics with lime green, royal blue, and orange were seen predominantly thoughout the space. Signage was produced on transluscent substrate, giving and icy, wintry appearance. Tradeshow booths were mounted beneath inverted white pyramidic umbrellas that were uplighted to look wintry white. Overscale printed graphics represented the local, rugged Utah mountains in snowy, wintry scenes. Olympic torches burned with flickering faux flames at key points in the hall.
SceneMakers also produced the general session stage for all general session meetings of the Conference. The stage consisted of three curved, white planes in triangular forms, with 3 faux flame Olympic torches. One torch was mounted below a circular truss that had a stretched circular screen in which lighting effects of icy patterns, shapes and colors, morphed behind a large Olympic cauldron. General Norman Schwarzkopf was the keynote speaker of the conference.
The 2001 Symposium was a tremendous success for Franklin Covey, inspite of tragic events which happened three weeks earlier on September 11th. SceneMakers was pleased to be the producer of the Symposium, working together with the client in producing a conference and tradeshow that were well choreographed within a theme.
