The above images show some examples of whimsical ways to add rustic detail to your barn or mountain wedding. Wagon wheels are a great touch, wood slabs for just about anything will add some great whimsy. Think about incorporating horseshoes or saddles too.

Who ever said a wedding in a barn had to be all rustic. Try hanging elegant chandeliers and using beautiful silks for table cloths or around floral. I think the above images of barn weddings show just how lovely you can dress up a rustic wedding venue.

This week on the Scenemakers blog we will be focusing on inspiration for a barn or mountain wedding – as we lead up to our next TV segment on Bride Access this Saturday. It seems to be the big trend here in Salt Lake for this coming summer.

The above images have great inspiration for the entrance to a wedding barn. A large hay wreath with over sized white drapes hung, make a big impact. Or try hanging your initials in greenery above the entry.

On top of that, our own Freddie Kesler will be on Bride Access tomorrow night, sharing some wedding tips on how to incorporate wallpaper into your decor. Tune in at 6:30PM, Saturday evening on Channel 4, to catch her fabulous ideas.

In keeping with the theme from yesterday, I decided to do today’s color theory using interior design inspiration, and more specifically, de Gournay chinoiseire wallpaper. Check out all the other beautiful wallpapers de Gournay has to get your wedding color inspiration.

Today’s whimsy inspiration comes from an amazing cake designer featured in Brides Local, Elizabeth Hodes. They commissioned her to come up with a cake using inspiration from interior design. The stye given to her was: Chinoiserie—a decorating style popular in 18th-century Europe that embraced Chinese motifs like birds and blossoms. Elizabeth used de Gourney wallpaper as her inspiration.

If you have ever felt stumped on how to add that unique touch to the way your personal flowers (most importantly, your bridal bouquet) are wrapped, check out some of the amazing vintage ribbon finds on Etsy. The blue and white stripped one above really captured me. It is an antique Victorian silk ribbon from 1817! I think that would do the trick for me.

Friday Fête posts give me the chance to color outside the lines a bit. Today’s post may be way outside the wedding lines, but in neighborly spirit – and in my own excitement – I thought I’d welcome some new friends to town. Just across the street from us, at Trolley Square, Lulu Lemon has finally gifted Salt Lake a full retail store. I’ve been watching and waiting for quite some time now, as I run into Whole Foods to grab my morning snaks, for our new neighbors to rip down their fun window covers, and open their doors. This afternoon I finally got to shop at my favorite yoga outfitters. Please stop in and say hello to them.

I love this grouping of colors for a wedding palette. It grasps lots of highs and lows in the dark pinks and reds as well as adding some pop with purple and a bit of glam with gold. It has a very classic deep palette feel – with a hint of excitement.

Another note on this arrangement: Many people are almost allergic to the word carnation when it comes to flowers. I find, when they are grouped together in bunches of the same color, they create a lovely texture – as seen in this image. Sometimes they add the perfect touch to get the effect you’ve been looking for. Try not to immediately write them off your list.

I can think of no better way to add a rustic yet classic ambiance through your decor, than by using bare farm tables for your wedding dinner. Typically tables are your largest canvas – and wood tables will truly set a natural tone.
