Friday Fête { Cherry Blossom Wedding }

It’s so fun when you get to do something a little unique for a wedding. The images below are from a spring Cherry Blossom wedding that we just did at the Salt Lake Hardware Building. The bride was part Chinese, and really wanted to highlight some of her roots. In addition to the beautiful cherry blossoms, bamboo, and parasols, she walked down the aisle, in Chinese tradition, in a red dress. I wish a had a photo of that, as it was such a fun sight!

Friday Fête {National Hot Toddy Day}

Better late than never – Wednesday January 11th was “National Hot Toddy Day”. It is the perfect January cocktail, as it seems to be prime cold and flu season – and people are recovering from a busy holiday season. The basic recipe includes whiskey (or rum or brandy), sugar, honey and spices — all heated to a boil with a lemon on the rim. Of course there are several gourmet variations, but all of them are perfect to sooth a scratch in your throat or feed your winter-warm-drink hankering.

Here is one particular recipe that caught my attention:

Hot Cinn Apple Toddy

  • 1 ½ parts bourbon
  • 1 ½ parts Hiram Walker Original Cinn Schnapps
  • ½ oz fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tsp agave nectar
  • Fill with hot apple cider
  • Green apple slice dipped in hot caramel or cinnamon stick for garnish

Pour the bourbon, schnapps, and lemon juice into an Irish coffee glass or mug. Stir well. Fill with hot apple cider. Garnish with the green apple or a cinnamon stick.

Friday Fête {Pumpkin Martini}

pumpkin-martini.jpg

Fall is officially in the air, and it’s time to break out your favorite pumpkin recipes and cocktails. This week I stumbled onto this fun Pumpkin Martini recipe – which I’ve added my own version for a non-alcoholic way to achieve a similar fun drink.

Pumpkin Martini

Ingredients:

1/2 oz Sylk Cream Liqueur
2 oz vanilla vodka
1/2 oz pumpkin liqueur or pumpkin spice syrup
1 tsp whipped cream
cinnamon stick for garnish
Preparation:

Pour the Sylk Liqueur and vodka into a shaker filled with ice.
Shake well.
Add the pumpkin liqueur or syrup.
Shake again.
Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Top with a teaspoon of whipped cream.
Garnish with a cinnamon stick.

For a non-alcoholic version, replace the cream liqueur with pumkin puree, and use pumpkin spice syrup instead of pumpkin liqueur. A of splash of cream and vanilla, will add some richness. To thin it out add a splash of either tap water or sparkling water. The vodka is left out.
